Office sound masking, increase productivity by decreasing distractions

by Frank Barnett

Time is a resource; it is a precious commodity that once lost cannot be made up again. Indeed the phrase "making up for lost time" is an oxymoron as once time is lost, that is it. This leaves only a handful of hours in which we can actually go about work.

Everyone wants to be productive at work, but being productive actually hinges on certain factors. Your interest and mindset on the current task at hand are important; however equally important is the level of distractions that may affect your focus and noise is one of the factors that productive people lose their concentration and end up wasting time rather than completing the task at hand.

Noise is not that easy to block out, even when in deep concentration all it takes is one funny comment or some bit of distracting sound to snap you out of your focus. All it really takes is one funny comment or snippet of office gossip to derail your though and distract you and once you lose your train of thought, that's also when you lose time, this is where office sound masking comes in.

If you want a little peace of mind at work, then office sound masking is the way to go. This white noise, as it is commonly referred to, can render ambient office noise unintelligible to the human brain. As such we can easily dismiss any sound as nothing more than a small blip, which is nowhere near enough to distract you from your focus and this can give you much needed peace on mind at work.

Companies lose a lot of money each year just because of distractions. This may not necessarily include breaks. They have gotten to a point in which it is now financially calculable how much is lost due to derailed thoughts. Think of the time you can save when you can work in an atmosphere conducive to work. When the office environment is conducive to productivity, trains of thoughts will not be getting derailed, work can progress at an efficient clip and time and money are saved, not wasted. By making the office a place where productivity is encouraged and distractions reduced, work can progress efficiently and time and money saved rather than lost.

Office sound masking is the solution to lost time in the work area due to distractions. Time is a precious limited commodity, and spending it on productive efforts rather than distractions should be the ideal scenario. Even when one focuses their concentration on a task at hand, all it takes is a funny comment, a loud noise, or the latest office gossip to derail the critical train of thought, and time is a limited resource.
