Stretch Mark Solutions You Can Try At Home

by Jen Hopkins

Scars that you would definitely not like to see on your skin are stretch marks. These are scars that look like thin, parallel lines that run across your skin. Fresh marks will have a reddish or violet color but once it heals, it will turn brown that is usually a different shade than that of your normal skin.

These annoying scars form when the skin is stretched beyond its normal capability which causes the underlying layer to break. When this happens, blood vessels in this layer are torn thus releasing blood which gives the red-violet appearance on the surface of the skin. These wounds will eventually heal but a scar will be left behind and this is what we commonly call as stretch marks.

Scars form on the skin because the tearing caused by the extreme stretching is not uniform. Surgical incisions done are clean cut wounds thus the body is able to heal them more easily without having to form a scar. Torn skin on the other hand, is much more complicated to heal thus it forms scars that can be seen on the surface of the skin.

Upon seeing the formation of these marks, some people will try to prevent scars from forming by massaging the areas of the skin that was affected. A lot of people believe that this will help in breaking down scar tissue so that it will not form visible scars upon healing.

Another way of making scars appear lighter is through the use of various creams. One of the most popular creams used against stretch marks is cocoa butter. Many people believe that it has the ability to diminish the appearance of scars as well as making the skin look smoother.

The use of vitamin supplements topically or orally is also another method that is done by a lot of people. Vitamins A, C and E all have important contributions to making the skin look better. They can help stimulate better skin cell production so that the older cells and scar tissues may be replaced by younger cells.

If you do not want these simple methods of scar removal, you still have the option of undergoing surgery, laser treatments or microdermabrasion to get rid of these blemishes on your skin. These methods may be more effective in removing scars but they will also cost you a lot of money.

Stretch marks are really annoying as they are very visible scars especially if they form on areas that cannot be easily covered by clothes. There are some things that you can do to lighten their appearance and make them less visible. But if you really want to get rid of them, you may have to resort to the more expensive methods such as microdermabrasion and laser treatments.
